a black tie wedding

I recently was a guest at a black tie wedding and realized that every other black tie wedding I have attended I was either a bridesmaid or it was my own wedding. At first I was so excited to have fun picking out a fun gown. But wow, I did not realize how hard it was to find a black tie dress that felt cool and different without being too over the top for a wedding. I think I ordered over 10 dresses and searched for hours before finally finding a dress I was so happy with.

A black tie dress should be a gown that hits the floor (with maybe just a tiny bit of toe showing). I see a lot of people opt for midi dresses at a black tie event, which technically isn’t the appropriate attire (although I think most of the time it is easy to get away with) and probably was chosen because of how hard it is to find a great black tie dress.
